Find Hale County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Hale County Jail, first distinguish a community release from a transfer to another custodian. The sheriff's booking and release record is the primary proof of the local event, while the related court case explains its legal basis. A person who leaves the Plainview jail may go home on bond, complete a local term, enter state custody, or move to another agency. The correct follow-up search depends on that destination. Hale County release records provide the date, time, authority, and transfer details needed to make that distinction.

Hale County Jail Release Paths

Leaving Hale County Jail can mean release to the community, but it can also mean transfer to another custodian. A person may leave on surety bond, personal bond, time served, dismissal, or another court order. A jail departure recorded as a commitment or transfer may instead lead to TDCJ, another county, a federal agency, or immigration custody. The release reason, receiving agency, and exact time in the sheriff's jail-management record separate those outcomes.

The court file adds the legal cause. A bond order, dismissal, judgment, or commitment can explain why custody changed, while the jail record documents when the physical handoff or release occurred. Neither should replace the other. Start with the official Hale County Sheriff and jail page, then compare the recorded event with the appropriate county or district court case.

Confirm a Hale County Release

No verified official Hale County roster or historic release feed was available at the research date. An absent name therefore proves nothing. The person might have left the jail, been transferred, entered TDCJ, or been omitted from a public display. Confirmation depends on the booking record and, when needed, the court or receiving agency.

  1. Identify the person with a full name, date of birth, booking number, or cause number.
  2. Call Hale County Jail and ask whether that booking remains active or ended by community release or transfer.
  3. Request the exact release date and time, release type or authority, and destination or receiving agency.
  4. Compare the event with the court disposition through the county clerk, district clerk, or re:SearchTX.
  5. If the destination is TDCJ, use the TDCJ inmate search. For a federal or ICE transfer, follow the named federal custodian.

A transfer is a release from the Hale County Jail booking, not proof that the person is free in the community.

The full Hale County released inmate search explains how these county, state, court, and federal systems fit together. A live custody tool answers where someone is held now. A booking/release record answers what happened to a completed local booking.

Hale County Jail Records

Texas Government Code Chapter 552 supplies the formal route to existing sheriff records. Send a narrow request through the current county channel and label it as a Public Information Act request. Ask for an existing booking sheet, release entry, or export rather than asking staff to create an analysis. The Texas Attorney General's Open Government guidance explains access, charges, and the government response process.

A useful request identifies the person and date range, then asks for the booking number, booking and release timestamps, arresting agency, charges, court or cause number, bond, release code, release authority, destination, receiving agency, detainer entry, and releasable booking photograph. State whether electronic copies or inspection are preferred. Hale County did not publish a verified local copy fee in the research, so ask for a written estimate instead of assuming a price.

About Hale County Jail

Hale County Jail is a county facility operated by the Hale County Sheriff's Office in Plainview. It is the local record system for people booked into county custody, including pretrial detainees, people serving eligible local terms, and people waiting for another agency to accept a transfer. It is not a TDCJ prison. Formby and Wheeler use a separate statewide corrections record even though both are near Plainview.

The official sheriff page names Sheriff David Cochran and publishes sheriff and jail contacts, policies, and related resources. It does not provide a verified rolling 24-hour or 72-hour release list. Commercial pages labeled as recent bookings report intake, not necessarily release, and are not substitutes for the sheriff's record.

Hale Jail Release Record Fields

A release record belongs to one booking. Names alone are weak identifiers, especially when two people share a name. Match the record with a birth date, booking number, or cause number before relying on the event. Charges describe allegations at booking and do not establish conviction.

Release date and time
The administrative timestamp for the booking's end.
Release authority
The bond, order, sentence calculation, or agency basis for the event.
Release type
A code or description such as bond, time served, dismissal, or transfer.
Destination
The community or receiving custodian, where recorded.
Detainer
A request or hold that may change where the person goes next.

Texas State Library Local Schedule PS supplies retention floors. Series PS4200-06a makes the jail register permanent and requires core intake and release-or-transfer data. Series PS4200-10 keeps booking, release, transfer, transport, and court release records for at least two years after release or transfer. These rules do not guarantee that every field is public or visible online.

Hale Jail Discharge Timing

Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 43.13 sets a physical-discharge window for an ordinary misdemeanor sentence that has been served. The usual window is between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the discharge day. The sheriff may credit up to 18 hours and use the prior day's window. The statute also recognizes after-hours releases by agreement or request and transfers under warrants or into another custodial system.

That law does not establish a single daily Hale County release shift. Bond processing, court paperwork, identity checks, detainers, and transportation can affect the recorded time. Ask for the actual timestamp and authority rather than estimating a door time from the court order.

Property After Hale County Release

A release can leave a paper trail beyond the booking sheet. Local Schedule PS series PS4200-12 keeps prisoner property inventories and receipts that document return of nonconfiscated property for at least two years after release or transfer. A former detainee can identify the booking and request the relevant receipt or inventory through the sheriff's records channel, subject to identity checks and disclosure law.

This county-jail process differs from TDCJ discharge preparation. State law directs TDCJ to address identification documents before parole, mandatory supervision, or discharge in specified cases. It does not impose that state-prison process on a routine Hale County Jail release.

Match Hale Release Court Records

A jail event and a court disposition answer related but different questions. The sheriff's entry supplies the physical release or transfer time. A court docket may identify a bond order, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, jail credit, later revocation, or commitment that authorized the change. For felony matters, the 64th Judicial District Court is one local starting point. The Hale County district clerk and 242nd District Court may hold other district cases, while the county clerk handles county-level matters.

Search by cause number when possible. A similar name is not enough. Read the signed document and its filing date, then compare it with the booking number and jail timestamp. A dismissal can explain why detention should end, but it does not tell when jail processing finished. Likewise, a release timestamp does not prove that the charge ended. Statewide re:SearchTX may provide documents from participating clerks, although coverage and access vary.

A charge listed on a Hale County booking record is an allegation, not proof of guilt or conviction.

Follow Hale Jail Transfers

The destination field determines the next search. If Hale County committed a sentenced person to TDCJ, use the statewide offender search with a TDCJ or SID number when available. The live search covers people currently incarcerated in TDCJ and is updated on working days with information at least 24 hours old. It is not a complete archive of discharged people. Prior incarceration and release history may require an inquiry through TDCJ Inmate Information.

A federal handoff belongs to a federal record. The Bureau of Prisons locator covers BOP custody and qualifying historic release information, but it does not capture every U.S. Marshals pretrial movement. A federal docket through PACER can explain the judgment, release conditions, or transfer. For an immigration handoff, use the ICE detainee locator and preserve the sheriff record naming ICE as the receiving agency.

An ICE detainer asks for notice and limited continued custody so federal officers can assume custody. If that handoff occurs, Hale County may close its booking as released even though the person remains confined by ICE. Confirm the receiving agency before telling family or counsel that someone entered the community.

Hale Release Request Responses

The Texas Public Information Act requires prompt handling of existing government information, but it does not force an office to create a new report, answer questions, or calculate a custom release list. Ask for records by their likely names and give a defined period. If a desired electronic export does not exist, request the releasable booking and release sheets for the identified entries.

Charges depend on the work and format involved. Under Chapter 552 and statewide cost rules, an office may give an estimate when production is expected to cost more than the applicable threshold. A request can be narrowed after an estimate. Certain law-enforcement, medical, identifying, or security information may be withheld under a specific exception. When an Attorney General decision is required, the government body follows the statutory request process rather than simply labeling the entire booking confidential.

Keep the submission receipt, any estimate, correspondence, and the final files together. That record makes the scope and response dates clear. For a correction, identify the exact field and provide the booking or court document that supports the requested change. Release alone does not erase an accurate arrest record. Expunction under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A and nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411 are separate legal processes.
